At Baptist, career development for nurses is vital to the success of the
organization and the organization offers many resources and rewards to encourage professional growth.
Baptist also has established a number of leadership bodies within the nursing community to foster
professional development within each unit, hospital and/or system setting:
- Nursing Practice Councils serve to determine best practice to improve patient care outcomes and promote excellence in clinical practice.
- Nursing Education Councils contribute to professional nursing and educational activities that support nursing staff in attaining, maintaining and advancing competence levels.
- Nursing Leadership works to improve services by incorporating current
nursing literature and research findings into policies and procedures, utilizing
nationally recognized professional standards, establishing a climate of safety, providing
qualified staff and promoting shared decision making.
In addition, Baptist nurses have the opportunity to participate in leadership academies
in association with the Advisory Board Company based in Washington, D.C.:
- The Nursing Leadership Academy serves nurse managers in advancing patient care excellence and efficiency through intensive education in the application of leadership and business skills to nursing management. Participants develop the core competencies of
nursing, such as standards and accountability, planning and decision making,
communication, building relationships and leadership. Baptist nurse managers have
the opportunity to participate in this program.
- The Center for Frontline Nursing Leadership Academy provides a companion program to the Nursing Leadership Academy, equipping frontline nurses with business, operational and leadership skills. Participants focus on developing critical thinking, problem-solving and mentoring and coaching skills.
