For nursing students who have not reached their final year of nursing school, the nurse tech program offers valuable clinical experience. Nurse techs must be enrolled in a nursing program.
Depending on their level of education, nurse techs have the opportunity to master basic patient care tasks including assisting nursing staff with the clerical duties and assisting patients to meet their comfort, dietary and activity needs.
As the nurse tech advances through a nursing program, he or she can perform clinical tasks including:
- Vital sign measurement
- Documentation of vitals signs and intake/output
- Assisting in collection of specimens
- Various other clinical functions
Mastering these responsibilities is the ideal springboard to the nurse intern program.
